Washing Dishes
SINKFUL
CJ Krug
Plastic dishpan
Green square of scrub pad
Muffin tin, green lid, spatula, spoon
A pan that held soup of squash of butternut
Dribbles and pools of rinsed food
Trickle-swoosh
Gurgle of drain catching its breath
My sleeves rolled up
Bubbles rise and greet me,
Angel faces pressed together,
Round heads sparkling
Lace robes bunching
Doing dishes? Let us rejoice!*
Write about a mundane task. What can you discover about the glory of chores?
*(Later, the crowd thins,
Soap angels flatten,
White garments long and lazy.
Empty of dishes,
Clear pools open
In quiet sinkwater.
Scattered below in the soaking deep
Lie the humbled crumbs.)
