Cheri Jackson, educator and creative person extraordinare, created the following writing exercise for middle school kids. I found it to be fabulous for adults as well. Find a boring textbook - the duller the better - and instruct students to create a poem using only the words on one page (or in one paragraph).
I put the task to Wildfire Writing students, with a page from an old engineering textbook (see excerpt above).
I loved the resulting poems of everyone! Here's mine . . .
THE SCHEME
High Voltage!
Separate
Disturbing
Where, which, without
This arrangement is terminal
Bushings
An insulated egress
Bolted, mounted, used
May be made to
Pass through
(only air to fill the empty spaces)
I love this, Christi! What a fun idea. I'll try using it myself.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mrs. G! I'll pass that on to Cheri Jackson, who gets credit for the idea. And please feel free to share your poem with us!
