What Matters Will Show Up

My ideals can't help but show through when I speak. Here I am in a video about my upcoming class, Wildfire Writing.*

What a person believes shows in their writing, too. I didn't always understand this. In my first stories, I would put lessons in my characters' mouths. I cringe to think of it. Twenty-something years later, I've learned that who you are naturally shows behind your story in a rich pentimento. No need to lecture or preach. A well-told story will sink deeper than tacked-on truth.

In order to influence people, refine your art. Surrender to beauty. Truth will follow.
